A Guide to Legionella Risk Assessments

Cleartech recently attended a Legionella workshop presented by Dennis Kelly, who is an expert on the subject. Legionella bacteria is a waterborne pathogen that is often found in engineered water systems. To determine the likelihood of your water systems being contaminated, a Legionella risk assessment should be your first port of call, as it will highlight what needs to be done to ensure yourself, your residents and employees are not at risk. Cleartech are able to offer workshops that will highlight the seriousness of Legionella to staff members and help them get a better understanding of the works that our engineers carry out.

This particular workshop was hosted at the an alcohol accommodation and support facility, where we provide L8 compliance services, as the staff at the complex wanted extra information on Legionella and the importance of keeping it out of a buildings’ water system. As you will be able to see in the infographic below – alcoholics, smokers and people with weak immune systems are more susceptible to catching Legionnaires’ disease, therefore, the residents at the support centre are more likely to develop the illness, if the bacteria grows in their water supply.

Cleartech arranged for the training to take place, in order to ensure our risk assessors and water hygiene engineers, as well as, the on-site staff at the support facility are doing everything they can to prevent the bacteria from having a breeding ground. If you would like any more information regarding Legionella or a Legionella risk assessment then the HSE also have plenty of tips and advice on the subject.

This infographic demonstrates where Legionella can form and the importance of conducting Legionella risk assessment on your property.
