Cleartech’s Approach
Cleartech Group partnered with Emtec Group on this new build project on the outskirts of Edinburgh with the end goal of completing the research and teaching facility at The University of Edinburgh’s Usher Institute at Little France, which is due to open 2024.
Cleartech’s scope of works included LTHW & CHW water treatment to BG29/2021, LTHW & CHW Commissioning Works in line with CIBSE Code W, Ventilation Commissioning in line with CIBSE Code A & Domestic TMV/Temperature validations as well as final disinfection works to BS8558.
Due to the timeline & programme constraints Cleartech had 3 teams on site, working between 4-6 engineers.
The first team of engineers generally LTHW & CHW systems which included a total of circa 50,000 litres of water & 400 commissioning valves were flushed, dosed & sampled in line with BG29/2021 to provide fully compliant system in terms of water quality & commissioning.
These systems were commissioned using PICVs & DPCVs serving FCUs, Rads & Heater Batteries from a collection of Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs).
The second & third teams were focusing mostly on the ventilation commissioning works, which included 9 AHU systems, circa 200 FCUs, a total of around 900 grilles as well as over 150 VAV/CAV boxes.
These systems can be complex and required a lot of planning from the site engineers & team leaders to engage on site with BMS contractors on site to set & validate VAVs on top of completing associated balancing works on time with the programme.
The final set of works included the DHWR balancing, TMV validations prior to 37,500 Litre CWST being cleaned & full system disinfected in line with BS8558.
All samples covering potability, pseudomonas & legionella were taken & tested at our UKAS accredited laboratory partner to provide final independent certification of a clean & compliant domestic system.
