Cleartech’s Approach
Cleartech Group partnered with BMES on the prestigious Stornoway Deep Water Cruise Terminal project located in the Outer Hebrides. This terminal is designed to cater to the needs of incoming ships by supplying them with all the necessary water—a unique and fascinating endeavour for our team.

Cleartech’s scope of work included leachate flushing of LTHW & CHW water treatment to BG29/2021 and LTHW & CHW Commissioning Works in line with CIBSE Code W. The primary objective of the leachate flushing regime was to reduce contaminants leaching from the piping material into the water. This process ensures the water supplied to ships meets the highest standards of purity and safety.

Due to the process of leachate flushing, Cleartech had to carry the regime out over two separate visits, both 7 days apart. The pipework had to be filled with water, thoroughly flushed out, and fully recharged with fresh water by the use of temporary outlets. The system had to then be left to stand fully charged for a period of 7 days before we could discharge and recharge the system with fresh water.

The project’s remote location in the Outer Hebrides required extensive planning due to its location. Transporting materials and personnel to the site required meticulous planning and coordination from the planning team and site engineers to engage with contractors on site to ensure works were completed on time with the programme schedule.
